lol, let me guess, this was your first time ???

when you configure the kernel (make xconfig)
guess on NON of the options, real EVERY single help file.
and if u dont know LOOK it up...
make sure you have the correct driver configured to be compiled as a module,

lspci is a command u will use very often to get manufacture id's and product id's

also cat /proc/(stuff)

if you do it properly, it should take around 2 hourse to completely run though ALL kernel config options, and research what YOPUR system needs.

smartcat, suse 8.2 is not 2.6 ready so u will need the new module-init-tools.
and it seems u forgot a lot of kernel options or built a lot of them into the kernel.

yes I compiles a lot into the kernel, and made a lot of modules, can't compile module-init-tools because of dependancy hell and a 56K modem
found out that the latest suse rpm for modtools had module-init-toold in it so, used that instead.

BTW...
why is there not a suse part in the distros forum???

---------------
linux is so well engineered that it would take a squadron of id10ts to ruin it

On a side note, please refrain from marking your posts or threads as "Urgent" as it does not speed up your responses, its considered rude and we don't make it a priority over any other members questions here.

Some will actually skip over threads marked as "Urgent". So in the future, please be kind to the LQ.org community. This is a free site to post questions and recieve answers for free from others that post in their own spare time.

Regards.

Exclamation

First, this was one of my first threads here, so I didn't know that it was insulting to mark it urgent. Sorry.
That over with.....
I can't get module-init-tools to compile, could it be because of an old version of docbook2man, since that's what make fails on... Any clues????
BTW about keeping config the same, does that mean I should use make oldconfig instead of make xconfig???
