Upgrade Gnome
Hi, i am using a red-hat 9.0 version found in a Linux magazine and although i selected to install both Gnome and Kde it give not me the possibility to select wich X server i would like to have as default. I only can run Gnome. I would like to start with kde in order to run K3b, but it could be possible only if i start with X-session, but i would like to start in console mode, so when i run startx, default is Gnome. How can i run Kde, and K3b?
I tried with kdm, but i could not find k3b althought i already installed it. Another problem. I would like to upgrade my Gnome in to 2.4. I have a directory with all the upgraded packages .tar. Have i to install each of them using tar, ./configure, make and make install? It would make me crazy. In a thread they suggest me to use Garnome, but when i run it, t start to download a lot of packages and it does not stop for a long time, and it look strange to me because i already have all the packages. Any suggestions? |
Never tried to switch between desktops myself(note: they are desktops, not X-servers),
but I have a tool for switching desktops under system tools in the gnome pop-up menu on the panel. The programs name is switchdesk. you could also run it from the terminal, I think. do: man switchdesk for more info. Here is one solution to the gnome 2.4 upgrade. http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...light=gnome+.4 |
