Upgrade From RH 5.2 to Debian 3.0 or Suse 6.2
I am not sure if this the correct place for this post, but, here it goes.
I have a IBM 760EL Thinkpad, I have installed RH 5.2 in text mode, I would like to install either Debian or Susie 6.2. My question is this: From the Command Line how can I update to the newer version? What is the command syntax? Thanks, Michael, KD7GHZ |
It isn't possible to "upgrade" from one distro to another. It sounds like you are trying to get rid of your RH and put on SUSE or deb. This can be a pain, but it just isn't possible to truly upgrade a distro without leaving files incompatible with distros around which will cause absolute havoc. Your best bet is to backup your personal files, and reformat the partition with RH and put on the new distro.

If you start up the Suse or Debian install CD it should reformat the partitions for you. Like bigpumped said you cannot change distros through another so you are going to have to burn/buy a cd with the distro you want on it
