Updating Question

I am planning on getting Mandrake Linux 9.2 when it comes out. If I were to install it and I would like to update it at a later time, say, when 9.3 comes out, can I do it without having to install it all over again and start over? Thanks for all of your replies!

yes you can update your distro lately =)
from 9.2 to mandrake 10 ( i think it will be number 10 not 9.3 )

hi MrJBOT, my experience w/upgrades is limited. i have only done this once. i installed mandrake 8.1 and it turned out i had some harware issues (which i learned quite a bit quickly getting them resolved). i then upgraded to mandrake 9.1 and quite frankly it went very well. I had some of the same harware issues as the original install, but other than that everything seemed to go fine. i have since done a clean install as i w/ limited experience mucked up the whole thing. i guess to answer your ? it is my opinion that an upgrade w/ work fine. the new package should look for installed software and configuration and address them accordingly. good luck.

I've got to confess that upgrades never worked well for me (did not work from 7.2 to 8.2, not from 8.2 to 9.0, and not fom 9.0 to 9.1). It probably works fine if all you have is software on the CDs and don't tweak too much with global config files in /etc and so on. But if you install other things (from contrib, plf, or tar.gz versions and the like), these will not get updated apporpriately and cause headaches.
