Updating from fedora 11 to Fedora 12

Hello,
I tried to update fedora 11 to Fedora 12 and when my update finished, it represented me with text login not GUI. I tried to start the xserver with startx but it could not find the command. I changed the etc/inittab file from 3 to 5 and when I booted the system nothing showed on the screen it remains blank.

Anybody with any ideas?

Thanks

olg

What I would do -

Use a live CD to get back into your inittab and set default back to 3. Then when you reboot Fed hopefully you will get a text login again. The startx binary might just be missing from your $PATH so login as root, then type 'type startx' and it should hopefully show up in an sbin directory. If you find it, run it as root, or use the full file path to run it.

report back!

May be you have an /etc/X11/xorg.conf file
with the "nvidia" driver included ? ?

How do I fix it?

/sbin

The sbin directory does not have startx command. Where is it?

cd /etc/X11/
su
mv xorg.conf xorg.conf-F11
( No xorg.conf is usually required on Fedora 12.)

The command " /usr/bin/startx "
is from the package ' xorg-x11-xinit '.
Please do : rpm -qa | grep xorg-x11-xinit
... to check, that the package is installed.
... ...

rpm -qa | grep xorg-x11-xinit
