Updating FireFox
Hello,
I'm currently running Arch Linux and can't find a way of updating to FireFox 3, it's not showing on the Arch website either. Also it appears to be called Bon Echo. I just want the normal version 3 x64. How do I go about this? Thanks. |
The last RC might still be in the unstable repository, that is the version I currently have installed. They are working out some final issues in packaging it, so it might be a day or so before it hits extra. If you can't wait, there is always AUR.
The Arch forum would be the place to read about updates and anything relating specifically to Arch. |
Hi, have a read of this thread, there are many posts, but I think you will get it.
http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...efox-3-650035/ I personally do most of what they do, except I unpack the zip to /usr/lib64/firefox3 Then make the links to /usr/bin/ You can also do this on a per user basis. to get firefox3... http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox...FR4vagodRGtSVw Hope this helps. It would be best not to install it manually, so there aren't any conflicts when it hits the repositories. Installing anything in Arch you plan to update is best done through the package manager.
Now would be a good chance to learn ABS: http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/ABS This is the PKGBUILD you will need to install Firefox3: http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=15184 This way it is easily removed when the package hits the repository. |
