What version of Ubuntu are you using?

try to change the download server in Software Sources.
You can find Software Sources by going to System>Admin>Software Sources, this is a gui tool which displays the different repositories for installing and updating you machine.

I looked at http://mirror3.ubuntulinux.nl/dists/...source/Sources which doesn't exist (I get a 404 error).
I then tried this: http://mirror3.ubuntulinux.nl and it is very old. The most "recent" Ubuntu release it lists is 7.10. Try changing the repos in your sources.list to something more up to date.
ciao,
jdk

Which part of "Try changing the repos in your sources.list" is unclear to you? No one can help you if you don't explain what you don't understand. For example do you know what a sources.list file is?

Well, you can start with answering the question from post #2 :
""What version of Ubuntu are you using ?""

If you don't know, then this command will tell : cat /etc/issue

.

Both amjumanu321 & jdkaye gave very helpful information I really don't understand why they were marked as not helpful, this will give you an idea but it's a learning experience.
http://theindexer.wordpress.com/2011...natty-narwhal/
google results for "sources.list ubuntu11.04"
http://www.google.com/search?q=sourc...ient=firefox-a

You a whole team of volunteers who are here to help you, some good info some bad, but all in all you are expected to do some of the foot work yourself.

Smile

It appears that my problem was indeed connected to the sources.list.

Copying/pasting replacement list from :

Once again, a problem has been 'fixed'....and I must confess that I am none the wiser!

Thanks anyway
Kevin
