Update my linux
hi
I have Red Hat Linux Box and I want to do some major updates - upgrades I know I have to take a full backup...but I have not options for that in your opinion what files I should tar to have them in case any update goes wrong? passwd? groups? anything else? thanks a lot |
Tar your /etc directory. That contains most of your system configuration.
Of course back up all your personal files in your /home/user directory. What typs of updates, or upgrades are you planning? Most updates only affect one application at a time, so the need is not as great for backup. Upgrades imply you are changing levels of the OS. Which is it? |
interesting thanks a lot
basically it is going from CentOS5.0 to 5.4 but using the DVD not yum because my servers are in pretty secure area and no internet connection is allow |
