Question Update 11.04 natty to 12.10

Hi friends,
I am using ubuntu 11.04.
I want to update to 12.04 or 12.10.

I have also tried apt-get install update...
but it's not working.

Anybody have any idea how to update, then please suggest me.
thanks

With regards,
Summit

The short answer would be:
1. Make a backup.
2. Change all occurrences of the word natty in the file /etc/apt/sources.list to precise and run
Code:
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
while hoping that nothing brakes.

You better do not upgrade to 12.10, it is unsupported, either go for 12.04 (as described above, supported until 2017) or 14.04 (supported until 2019, upgrade to 12.04 as described above and then to 14.04).

Hi

Thanks for reply.
I have tried it with different mirrors/servers but it is always displaying the same message
"
apt-get upgrade
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
"
but its version is still same
"
Inspiron-N5010:~# lsb_release -a
No LSB modules are available.
Distributor ID: Ubuntu
Description: Ubuntu 11.04
Release: 11.04
Codename: natty
"

Please suggest how can I upgrade ubuntu from 11.04 to latest version.
Thanks for your time!

In light of this announcement: http://fridge.ubuntu.com/2012/09/17/...tober-28-2012/

you missed the window of opportunity to upgrade by normal methods.

So, you have two options:

You can follow these long, complicated, incomplete, and obsolete instructions that will likely fail: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/EOLUpgrades

Or you can back up your data and follow these short and easy instructions: http://www.ubuntu.com/download/deskt...ubuntu-desktop

Your choice, good luck!
