Up2date agent problem

Hi guys and gals!

I have just installed a Red Hat Linux 9 on my pc and i have tried to update with it's agent.Ok i went to the website and download manager got the software, then i run it and then....nothing has changed! The new updated agent for some unknown reason to me hasn't updated itself, that means i still get the same error that says - problem registering user name.
As a matter of fact nothing wants to work on my pc.I downloaded firefox(i run it under windows) but i can not install it to my system.I used RUN PROGRAM from a main menu to install it but unsuccessful! I thought i am smarter than that but i guess i am not.Or perhaps this Linux is not for me which i bought at BestBuy if i do remember it correctly.
Any help,suggestions are welcome.
Funny thing - now i can't even get back to windows even if i wanted to.I think i am screwed but it's an adventure, isn't it ?Well with this optymistic end i ask for help!!!

Thank You.

Thank you so much.I don't know yet how successful i will be but i will try to do something with it.I really appreeciate your help!!

Windows was deleted and even when i tried restoration CD ,it tld me that FAT16 and FAT32 file do not exist and the setup will not continue.Linux did not make a partition though i tried to make but it refused, telling me there are no partitions on this system to be saved and it did continue with Linux installation.I like face of that new OS but reading your comments the Red Hat is perhaps not for me system. Is it like outdated or just simply sucks ? I am a rather desktop user who got sick of windows being corrupted few times in last 3-4 months. Can i install games on it ? Like Medal of Honor and stuff ? No i am not a kid unless you can call me a 41 years old kid.

Also i tried to upgrade Mozilla and then it went to directory USR/Mozila but it did refuesd to create it.Perhaps when i finally get to more use to it i will make more sense.
Thank you again!

Robert

The only way to learn is to use it,if you have internet and sound(I like to listen to music)stick with it for awhile, installing is easy learning take doing it,ask here and use google. You can reinstall windows anytime but if you only use linux you will give yourself the chance to catch the bug and you will never look back.I would download the 3 mandrake 10 cd's and save them just in case you mess up redhat install mandrake 10.good luck

First from root su <password> fdisk -l and lets see if it is still there,if it is gone just pop in the cd and install then if you want to dual boot install linux second install grub or lilo to the mbr the linux install should walk you through it.Before you install linux defrag windows and use partition majic or partition commander to create free space for linux.

I tried fdisk under windows and it told me to create a partition and after i supposedly did it,the windows refused to install it,tells me that OS2 is installed and FAT16 AND FAT32 FILE DO NOT EXIST.and tells me to go check FDISK and C:/configs.txt .

What does it mean from "ROOT" where is this command located or how can i get to it ?
Same to su and password- how that works ?
When i try to install a program a window pops up with root name and sks about password only, which i have created at the beginning of the linux installation.
I hope i don't give you a headaches

Thank you

I thought you couldn't get back to windows fdisk -l is in linux?
You can only install a program if you type your root password and press enter.

I found at Amazon.com mandrake linux Discovery 10.0 for 35 buck with free shipping.

This one looks fine except i can not download it. lol ! Honestly redhot sucks. It has to many bugs and i can't fix it because mu up2agent does not run correctly.
I know about installing from root where password is needed. It would be fine if this damn thing im leaning toward another developer than REDHAT.

Why so many developers of Linux ?
