unmounting device while file is open

sounds potentially dangerous, so i'm not trying this... would appreciate an answer though...

what happens if say i umount the floppy while i have a file belonging to it that is still open? i'm guessing it'll get corrupted?

Nope, the umount command will spring back an error saying 'device still busy'.

there is a force umount option.. but yeah, i wouldn't do that while you have a file open that is on that mounted drive, etc.
