Unknown Host

Hi there.

Although I can connect to all my sites through Win98 Internet Explorer , with Linux Mandrake 8 some sites load O.K but others give me an Unknown Host error but they are fine in Windows, loading everytime ..

Anybody got any ideas please..All appreciated, Thanks

Which Browser are you running? I have had the same prob in different ones and the fix was different for each.

Have you properly configured your file /etc/resolv.conf ??

This holds the DNS Servers for your ISP.

Well I`ve tried a differant provider to log in to net but its the same problem but with differant sites this time,,I`m using Konquerer if that means anything. The sites I couldnt connect to ,some are o.k now but others are screwed up now ?

Sounds like a networking problem.

What kind of connection are you using?

Are you sure you have /etc/resolv.conf configured right?

Maybe add another nameserver.

Does refresh help?

I know this sounds wierd but a lot of times, but several websites will not load for me if I don't put a trailing slash on the url.

If I remember correctly, rpmfind.net and freshmeat.net were among ones that I have had trouble with.

I am using konquerer with KDE 2.1.1 on redhat 7.0.

Honestly, I am not crazy. I know that this shouldn't mean anything.

Had the same prob with Konqueror. Mozilla 0.7 is a little buggy for me, 0.9 works well, though! Netscape 6.1 works even better (easier).
