Unity removed from Ubuntu 11.10 software center


Can anybody please tell me, what will happen if I remove
Unity 2D,
Unity 2D panel,
Unity 2D places &
Unity 2D launcher
from Ubuntu 11.10 software center.
Please do not reply......"Do & see".
I want real answer with explanation.

That depends on how you have installed ubuntu. If you used the standard install disc, no with options, removing unity2D will remove ubuntu-desktop. Unity2D is a dependancy of ubuntu-desktop (silly, canonical, but that is sort of thing we should expect now)-

http://packages.ubuntu.com/oneiric/ubuntu-desktop

If you can remove unity2D (because you've used some install options, etc) and are using unity2D because your system doesnt have the capability to use unity, then removing unity2D means you wont be able to login to the desktop (unless of course you have a differenr desktop installed as well as unity).
