Uninstalling something?

Hiya,

I have tried to install opera 7 and it doesn't work -- suprisingly!! Grr.. (hint the note of sarcasm there)

I now have to install qt3 or something to get it to work!

But what I would like now is to uninstall what is there and begin again... and how do I go about doing this - I notice a rollback prog in the usr/shareopera/blha/blah folder and have tried this but it also needs this qt3..

so ho do I uninstall opera - or anything else easily for that matter?

I guess what I'm asking is - there is no uninstall function like in windows, no? *cough spit* sacrelidge i know - but is there?

Thank you for any reply,

Yad.

It all depends on what distro you're running, and what you did to install it. If you use a distro that has a package manager and used it to install, chances are the package manager will also uninstall, too.

So, what distro/installation method?

Hi, thanks for the reply.

RedHat9 and I used .rpm from the command line and then tried to use sh install.sh but am missing this qt3 module - even though its there.

I see that this is a common problem with the installation of opera.. and so thought I would remove what was installed and instead use a static version.

having probs with the uninstall!

Cheers,
Yad.

It's been a long time since I dealt with rpm, so my knowledge is limited. I know that there is an uninstall option with it..

You might try read at http://www.rpm.org/RPM-HOWTO/ for more information on RPM, and read http://linux.ctyme.com/man/man2315.htm for the man page.

it looks like rpm -e packagename is the way you want to go.

Yes... in the shell you have to run the rpm command, along with the erase flag (-e)

If you are marked to need to uninstall other packages or you can choose the flag --nodeps, which you should only use if you know what you are doing.

You must also have a Graphical Package Manager around there. I have it under System Setting and it's called Packages.
