uninstalling kde without removing k-apps...
Greetings all!
I've started tinkering around with fluxbox, WindowMaker, blackbox and hackedbox and I'm really noticing how much faster and smoother my laptop runs versus running kde. The question I have is this: Can I uninstall kde the window manager without uninstalling all of the 'k' related apps? I really don't like using it anymore as I am finding, like I've read in a lot of different places, that kde really does use a lot of system resources. kde was a great place to start for me when I migrated from windows, but I find I'm just not interested anymore. Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks! BTW, my votes are leaning toward fluxbox and WindowMaker!! |
Forgot to mention: Using FC5!

Well to actually use the KDE apps you're going to need to keep the KDE libraries. Maybe start by posting the output of
Code:
rpm -qa | grep -i kde |
tk,

Some KDE apps require qt, kdelibs and some may need kdebase (although not many), so if you intend to use some kde apps, you shouldn't remove these packages.
