uninstalling gnome and a few more questions.
 

hows it goin guyz,

I installed linux yesterday to try and learn something new and well so far it has been really tough.
1.After reading a few posts i figured that more people prefer KDE than gnome, therefore i wanna uninstall gnome and run kde to see how i feel about it. One problem: How? lol. Please help me as i am in a state of confusion.
2. Also I'm trying to view my windows files through linux and so far i think i have got it solved, but when i click on the folder theres a file in there wit a hard drive icon. When i click on that it says no viewer found or something. How can i fix that?
3. Linux does not see my CDrom drive for some reason
4. Currently, i cannot log on to the internet which is why i wanted to view my windows files, because i downloaded linksys usb wireless drivers from their site to install. Can someone give me a step-step instruction on how i would install and configure the drivers.

@ 1. depends on the distribution youre using
@ 2. what filetype is it an *.exe or what?
@ 3. you have to mount it first by typing mount /dev/chdroms/cdrom0 /mnt/cdrom

thanks kasper, i'm using redhat 9.

Also about the hard drive icon. It is not for the windows files itself but the partition itself. It says hda1. How can i fix that?

I'll try searching for the drivers and how to install em. thx

ok if you are using red hat then you have rpm package system means that you have just to go to your package manager and uninstall all gnome packages then download the kde packages and install them by dubble click
no if you have mounted the windows partition right then there shouldnt be any problems in viewing did you mount it? or do you just have a permission problem?

well i nanother thread it said i have to install ntfs support... but it gives me an error when i try. I think i have mounted it correctly it just doesnt read it or something
