Uninstalling gcc
I recently installed gcc v. 3.2 via an rpm in attempt to upgrade mine from 2.96, and i probably installed the wrong rpm b/c it didnt compile mplayer, anyhow i need to know how i can get rid of the version 3.2 and get back to my 2.96. thanks in advance.

If it was an rpm:
rpm -e gcc

indeed it was an rpm. When i execute rpm -e gcc it tells me my kernel and other programs are dependent upon it, and it lists gcc 2.96, so im thinking 3.2 is uninstalled.. but when i gcc -v and gcc -dumpversion it lists 3.2.

You could try

rpm -U --oldpackage theolderversion.rpm

maybe help
