Uninstall/Update "Make"

Hey everyone! First time to the forums and still fairly new to unix/linux.

I currently have to run some outdated software and am having troubles with make. I have Red Hat 9 with make 3.79. I have the RPM for make 3.8but I can't install it due to the fact the previous version of make is still installed. I have combed forums and help pages with no luck on how to uninstall or update make. I load the package manager, but make is included in the base package and can not be individually selected for removal.

Any help would be greatly appreciaed!!

Welcome to LQ.

'make' can be removed with the command
# rpm -e make
( may be # rpm -e --nodeps make )

I hope, you are also using some current Linux.
"Redhat" CentOS 5.3 is recommended.

Redhat 9 was declared dead, obsolete the year 2004.
