Uninstall RH9 - boot disk not working
 

Hello everyone. I am a complete noob :D

I recently loaded RedHat 9 on an HP P3-450. With Gnome, it is running very slow. When I try to run OpenOffice apps, they take forever to load. Anyhow, I would like to try a different distro and dual boot this time with Windows 2000 (yeah, I know) until I can get used to Linux.

When I tried to rm the partitions, Grub still comes up as GRUB>. I reloaded RH again so that I can boot.

I have been searching on this forum for a couple hours and pretty much everyone has been saying to put in a windows boot cd and use fdisk/mbr.

Here is where I am having trouble. I put the disk in, restart my computer, and grub takes over without allowing the disk to boot. I have already changed the settings in the bios to allow the floppy to boot first. I have also tried a windows boot cd. I know this topic has been beat to death, but if anyone knows a way that I can start over fresh, I would really appreciate the help. I am not worried about losing any data, so I can completely wipe the whole disk.

Hi, what you need to do is change the boot sequence in the BIOS so that it boot in this order

DVD/CD ROM
A:
C:

Put the CRD/DVD first and it will read the CD and boot from it first.

If you still can get the hang of it then www.bootdisk.com has many windows bootdisks for you to d/l that way you can use the A: drive.

Thanks - that seems to have done the trick. I did fdisk/mbr and it worked!!

I ran fdisk on the mbr and deleted the partitions. When I rebooted for the changes to take place, now my computer will not access the a:\ drive anymore. My boot order is floppy, cd, hd, then AMD PCnet-FAST MBA. When it goes through all of the boot options, it says Operating System Not Found.

What's up with that? It is skipping right over floppy and cd.

OOPS,

I found the problem. There is a security setting in the bios that was disabling the option to boot from floppy. I am up and running now.
