Assuming you want to completely remove RH 9 and erase all the data on its partitions from your computer, you don't have to do anything; the install program for your next distro will just give you the option of wiping out those partitions and installing itself onto them. You'll need to reconfigure the bootloader of the next distro to work with ME, just like you did with RH9. Just be very sure you know which partitions are for RH and which are for ME so you don't erase the wrong thing when installing your next distro.

i installed mandrake 9.0 just as a test, but now i want to use rh8. I run win2000 on c:\ and man9.0 on d:\ both partitions are on the same hard disk. Seeing as mandrake controls the boot loader, will it affect windows in anyway if i just get rh8 to format the linux partition?

i think redhat will want to install it's own boot loader, which should overwrite the one that mandrake created...so it shouldn't affect your windows...you can always use a windows start up floppy or cd and do a "fdisk /mbr" which will take care of the problem too
