uninstall Linux UBUNTU without boot CD
how to uninstall Linux UBUNTU without boot CD?

What are you replacing it with?
IF this is a decommissioning operation you should be able to do it booting into single user mode. If I remember this right, that should stop before it starts using the system disk, and be running from the boot initrd. You might have to google around about getting the boot to stop there, I'm pretty sure that there is a kernel option you can also use (besides just single user). Right now I see "rdinit=path" where path is the path to a shell in the initrd rather than in the init from ramdisk (you would have to look in the initrd for the right shell - I think it uses "ash" but not sure - while looking also look for dd, as that would be what you use to erase the hard disk, and the system installation - though a "cat /dev/zero >/dev/<diskname>" should also work, though a bit slower). |
Hi there,

So I guess you're not simply planning to uninstall Ubuntu, but rather, to replace it with a different OS. The usual procedure is to boot the alternate OS from its installation media (CD, DVD, bootable USB drive) and start its installation procedure. In the process of installing that other OS, you'll simply delete the partitions that once had Ubuntu on them, and re-create partitions for the new OS. There's a situation which is particularly easy: If you had a dual-boot configuration with another OS beside Ubuntu, you can simply boot that other OS and use its partitioning tool to delete the Ubuntu partition, thus gaining space to use for your alternate OS. How did you install it to begin with? Did you use wubi?

There is a self destruct program built in. (just search in Youtube "Linux self destruct Program")
But Like Jefro said. If talking about wubi install inside of windows. Then elaborate more than in the original post. |
