Uninstall LINUX OS
 

I want to uninstall my openSuSE 11.2 from my desktop PC. I am currently running openSuSE on one of my other laptops, openSolaris on the other laptop, and I am going to run ubuntu on my desktop PC. I want to learn how to uninstall the openSuSE 11.2 without running a liveCD from another LINUX distro to do so. So my question is "How can someone uninstall openSuSE from within openSuSE itself ?"

The other reason is that my Windows XP on that HDD has had a massive failure and I want to wipe my hardrive completely clean and start anew!

You don't uninstall any OS, you simply remove or format the partition. This is generally not done from within the OS so a bootable cd/dvd would be required

You don't uninstall ANY OS from within itself. That's like trying to remove the engine from your car, while you're driving. You can only take off so many parts, before it stops.

Get a new CD/DVD of whatever OS you want to load, put it in your drive, and boot from it. Whatever installer you're using will prompt you to layout your hard drive, and/or format it. Choose "format", and it'll wipe it out, and be good as new.

Can you point me in the right direction as how to obtain or build a disc to wipe my hardrive clean or to reformat it. Regardless, my MS Windows is tainted and I need to "wipe" the hard drive clean.

Thank you Onebuck! Just to let you know the ultimate boot cd (UBCD) is exactly what I needed and I recommend it for everyone. It contains a lot of tools for all computer builders. Once again thanks for the direction and insight. Awesome!

Not sure if this will help but I used DBAN to wipe my harddrive and start over. I think its freeware, Im not sure cause my computer geek roommate gave me the disc. If you type in autonuke upon setup it is completely idiot-proof but it takes about 6 hours, I did mine before I went to bed and when I woke up it was completely done. PEACE

Why DBAN? That paranoid?

You could formatted a new filesystem after a random write to the device. This is GNU/Linux not M$hit.

Nuking the device will only enrich the power company and the drive manufactures. :)
