rpm -e <package name> if installed via rpm

or
in redhat use redhat-canfig-packages
in mandrake use drakconf
if you tell your dist.

Is that mean I need to get orginial source first?

Another thing is if I installed one of them via tar.gz ? What should I do to then? Thanks!

Well, I don't know if this will help, but I'm using RH8.0 and I just upgraded PHP ( heard there was an issue with it in 8.0). All I did was D/L the php rpms into my rpm dir and used:

rpm -U php*

and this took care of dependencies too.
I assume you can do the same with Httpd and MySql.

What exactly is your problem, by the way? Something in particular, or you just wanting to upgrade?

Well, I'm a noob myself so hope this helps -- just trying to give back! :-)
