If you mean Ubuntu, that is a Debian derivative so it uses the apt package manager. Just type
Code:
sudo apt-get remove packagename
But be careful! Apt packaging is very tightly integrated, so removing one package often leads to other packages going with it. Read any warnings that apt gives you about other packages before you OK the removal.

Hi...
In addition to hazel's suggestion, if you prefer doing this using a GUI, you can always use the Synaptic package manager. Just place a search for the program (using it's name) to find it quickly.
Regards...

If you already know the name of the program, apt-get is much quicker. That's why I suggested it. Synaptic really comes into its own when you are browsing software, for example looking for a video player.
