Unable to use joystick with soundblaster

Hi,
Loving Amiga OS. Unable to cope with Windows I was Informed Linux may be the OS for me.

I am now on Linux Mandrake 8 and I like the feel :)

Only problem is that I have a Soundblaster Digital 4.1 PCI card and Linux has failed to recognise my joystick controller on which I`d like to use a Gravis gamepad. How do I get Linux to recognise this game port??

Being that I am a "newbie" and have so much to learn about the Linux OS, I thought I would ask for help here. I would appreciate any help given :)

Also I am aware that there is a file out there somewhere wich Immitates DOpus Magellan on Linux. Does anyone know where I may find it as it would be great to feel like I`me home :D

It probably needs to be compiled into your kernel...
I had to compile Thrustmaster joystick support into my
kernel as well.

Seeing as how you're a newbie, it may take a while before you get far enough to be able to compile your own kernel. I suggest a healthy dose of reading as much as you can about linux. Reading the readme that comes with a kernel also helps you in the right direction. At first it may seem difficult and incomprehensible as a newbie, but a good deal of having the readme open on one console and trying out the commands you read on another really gets you where you wanna go....

Good luck and have fun!!!!

thanks for your reply da perp.

Reading some of the other posts here I found a site called www.linuxdoc.org . I think I`ll have a go at a creating a module 1st and if that works, I`ll try adding it to the kernal. This way, if I fail, atleast I won`t corrupt the kernal.

Thanks again for your advice. ;)
