Unable to use 3c905-tx on pavilion 4450 with Red Hat 9
Hi - I just got a free HP Pavilion 4450 desktop, it came with Win98 and 128K Ram, and a 8.4 GB hard drive. I tested the PC before installing Linux, and the Ethernet card was working. I then installed Red Hat 9 Sever and when completed the Ethernet adapter is unable to get a DHCP IP address. I'm completely new to Linux. I also tried another working Netgear card same results.

Hi,
and welcome to LQ! Is the card being detected in terms of hardware? What output do you get when you enter lspci (as root) in a terminal? The card is acutally quite well supported. And do you know which tool RH9 uses to obtain a dhcp lease (assuming that you actually used the RH wizard thingy to tell the installation to use DHCP). Cheers, Tink |
