Unable to surf websites

Hi,

I am new to linux. I have installed mandrake 10.1. I can ping the websites but unable to access them through browser. Saying that I can access the homepage of my router. Also, I managed to get onto mandrake website and apache once but when i tried to surf google it gave the error and eversince I have not managed to surf any website. Please help.

What is the exact error that you are reciving when you atempt to access google.com?
Also what browser are you using? <- That would help.

An error occurred while loading http://www.google.com:

Timeout on server
Connection was to www.google.com at port 80

The error I am getting is mentioned above. I can ping the website.

The part of the problem is solved. I have DHCP enabled router and the linux machine was not getting the gateway hence I have provided the machine static IP and gateway. But I am still unable to access google website. please help
