unable to send mail to external "stat=User unknown"

Hi All,

We are unable to send emails from a linux server running with Oracle Enterprise linux 5.

I tried sending to gmail and yahoo and I never received mail. Able to send within domain. It works from other server.

From the /var/log/maillog I see bellow error.

Oct 26 15:06:04 xserver: sendmail[2322]: u9QK5x1L002320: to=<sgaddam1@gmail.com>, ctladdr=<root@xserver.ad.XXXXX.com> (0/0), delay=00:00:05, xdelay=00:00:05, mailer=relay, pri=120390, relay=smtphub.XXXXX.com. [xx.xx.37.89], dsn=5.7.1, stat=User unknown

Hi and welcome to LQ,

Quote:

mailer=relay, pri=120390, relay=smtphub.XXXXX.com. [xx.xx.37.89]
The snippet above means that you're using a smarthost (smtphub.XXXXX.com) in order to send mail from your server.
It's the smarthost that gives you the error, so you have to contact the smarthost admin to see why you cannot send mail out.

I have contacted smart host admin and got added IP to the smtp server which resolved the issue. Thanks all.
