Unable to reboot Ubuntu in my virtualbox

I just installed another system in my virtual machine. Since then, I've not been able to reboot my Ubuntu. The error message I get is:
Gave up waiting for root device. Common problems:
- Boot args (cat /proc/cmdline)
- Check rootdelay=(did the system wait long enough?)
- Check root= (did the system wait for the right device?)
- Missing modules (cat /proc/modules; ls /dev)
ALERT! /dev/disk/by-uuid/8a88a251-3be3-4727-b60e-bba76368c81e does not exist. Dropping to a shell!

BusyBox v1.20.2 (Ubuntu 1:1.20/0-8ubuntu1) built-in shell (ash)

Enter 'help' for a list of built-in commands.

(initramfs)

Hmmm...well the first clue says
ALERT! /dev/disk/by-uuid/8a88a251-3be3-4727-b60e-bba76368c81e does not exist. Dropping to a shell!

was that the partition your /boot drive was located (point to mbr)?
seems like it is looking for a critical partition in the start-up/shutdown of the device.
so what has changed since the new install? Also you may want to investigate your /etc/fstab file.

Code:
# ls -l /dev/disk/by-uuid
# grep -i uuid /etc/fstab
Hope that helps...
