Unable to Print - Epson / Mandrake 10

Okay, I am officially in printer purgagory.

I have spent the past three or so hours (yes on a Sunday morning) trying to get my printer to work. Okay, I've played a few Tux Racer games, but the
rest is all printer.

I have read and reread LinuxPrinting dot org. I have looked through this site and even posted a usenet thread or two.

I even looked on my sites just for the fun of it. ;)

Nothing.

I once printed a test page, but that was some time ago. I now get nothing. I have an Epson CX3200 multifunciton printer. It is a USB printer. (USB 2.0 I believe.)

I have tried it at LP0, LP1, USB0, USB1, USB2.

I have tried CUPS + GIMP v4.2.6 printing and GhostScript + gimp.

Nothing.

Any ideas where I can look? I don't have a clue where to go from here.

What really bugs me is that I once got a test page from the control center. I believe that was while it was listed as USB0.

BTW: The system is a dual-boot NT 5 / Mandrake 10 AMD Athlon 2600+ with 512MB memory and a Biostar M7VIG Pro motherboard (Socket 7 / VIA KM266 chipset).

TIA

Hi.

Welcome to hell.

I'd use CUPS wherever possible. Make sure cupsd is running, then point your browser to:
http://localhost:631

That should give you all the configuration options you need, and should let you see what status your system thinks the printer is in.

I've had untold problems with my Epson 760, seemingly from using the RedHat configuration tools, but configuring from the CUPS web interface seems to have done the trick.

Sorry if you know all this already.

Thanks for the tip. I'll try it in the morning.

BTW: I just got an email from Epson where they suggest: http://www.epsondevelopers.com/

I haven't checked it out yet.

Aaargh!

I used this very nice interface.

Unfortunately, it does give me messages. I either get "Port busy, will retry in 30 seconds." or "Printer not connected."

Listen closely, you'll hear sound of head against wall.

Hi. (I'm pointyman, I was using someone elses computer)

I would remove the printer (both in the configuration, and physically from the USB port), then do all the configuration from the CUPS web interface.

There may be some more clues here:

Thanks for the tip, yeah, I've been all over that page. I even tried doing the C62 thing. Most of the page refers to earlier kernels and to scanning.

I will do what you said, however. Remove the printer from the configuraiton and reload it using the CUPS interface. Hadn't tried that, thanks!
