unable to play media from external HDD on Linux Fedora
i just wiped my drive and made the change from windows 7 to Linux Fedora on my ASUS G73JH. install went fine, though when it finished i am unable to play the media i had saved on my external HDD. on windows 7 this is an easy fix, as i'm sure is the case with linux. i am completely new to linux and i'm not sure what software i need.
Are you getting any errors? What type of media are you referring to? What program are you using to open the media?
The issue I most often encounter is codec related issues, because Fedora does not by default install codecs that require a license.
To resolve, Google rpmfusion, setup the repositories on your Fedora yum, then you can search and install "gstreamer" plugins. Look for "good", "bad" and "ugly" - those are the ones I generally install and all my codec issues get resolved.
i'm trying to play mp3, mp4, AAC. i tried opening in rythmbox, it gives an importing error saying it is an error in rythmbox or gstream. i tried opening files in dragon video, and movie player and they give me a page saying i need decoders. when i search for the decoders/plugins it states none can be found. i just downloaded xine, but havnt goten it working yet. i'm gonna try your idea right now
where is the fedora YUM at? i have searched my comp for repositories setting and YUM. i cant find either. sorry to be such a newb but i've never used linux before.
you're welcome. that Mixxx looks pretty slick. I'm not really into mixing my own music, but it almost makes me want to try just to use that software :-)
