unable to mount external hdd

1 Attachment(s)
hi everybody,
previously i was using windows os and i have external hdd. i gave it to my friend but i was not able to mount that hdd even in windows and linux too.

error are as follows:

unable to mount sameer

Error mounting: mount exited with exit code 13: ntfs_attr_pread_i: ntfs_pread failed: Input/output error
Failed to read NTFS $Bitmap: Input/output error
NTFS is either inconsistent, or there is a hardware fault, or it's a
SoftRAID/FakeRAID hardware. In the first case run chkdsk /f on Windows
then reboot into Windows twice. The usage of the /f parameter is very
important! If the device is a SoftRAID/FakeRAID then first activate
it and mount a different device under the /dev/mapper/ directory, (e.g.
/dev/mapper/nvidia_eahaabcc1). Please see the 'dmraid' documentation
for more details.

So, did you performed what was on this message? Did you started Windows and gave command "chkdsk /f".

I'm glad it works. For the future: this happen probably because this disk has been removed without unmouting first or just by power failure. System hasn't chance to properly close all files and left it with "unstable" state. It is not always recoverable, so better is unmounting disks before detaching.
