unable to mount external dvd

I have just installed Mandriva a few weeks ago. I usually burn dvd's with my external dvd drive connected via usb2. Until now I have no problems connecting the drive since automount took care of that. But now I can't even see it in drakconf under hardware. I am using a laptop with a Samsung cdrom drive which works fine. I've searched the forum and most people are asked to post the output from dmseg. If that is needed please tell me what's relevant since it is 44K size.

microsoft/linux 11-24-2005 03:13 PM

The DVD drive was auto-detected up until now? Did anything change? the output from dmesg would be useful. What happens when you plug in your DVD drive?(i.e. in the USB port). Open up a command line and watch the output, post that here as well.

bamsesbilledbog 11-24-2005 03:38 PM

Here is the output from dmesg. Remember, it is not the Samsung drive that is the dvd drive.

Sorry for the long post. But as I said, I don't know what to look for in dmesg.

this is the relevant stuff(that I noticed), you can remove everything from your second post becuase that's all firewalling stuff. what happens when you plug it in?

bamsesbilledbog 11-24-2005 04:00 PM

Well. I could normally see it in k3b or in the hardware section in drakconf. If I need to post some kind of output, please tell me what (and how).

microsoft/linux 11-24-2005 04:21 PM

open up a console, and then plug in the drive. Post the output from there. Can you still see it in k3b? Has anything changed on your system?

bamsesbilledbog 11-24-2005 04:32 PM

There is no output in a console when I plug it in. I can't see it in k3b either. Earlier I always could see it k3b right after I plugged it in. But not now.

microsoft/linux 11-24-2005 05:42 PM

has anything changed on your system(update of software, something?) since the last time you tried it?

bamsesbilledbog 11-28-2005 02:34 PM

Thanks for the help. But I figured out the problem. It was a hardwarefailure. The 5 1/4" case no longer works.
