Unable to mount data hard drive w/ file system LVM2 on fedora12

Upgraded from fc12 to fc14 using yum upgrade. fc 14 boots, but can't log in as user or root. passwords not accepted. removed hard drive and installed new blank drive then reinstalled fc12 on drive (primary master) connected old drive as primary slave. created directory /mnt/sdb1 and tried as root to mount (mount /dev/sdb1 /mnt/sdb1) and get:
mount: unknown filesystem type 'LVM2_member'
gparted finds both drives (sda1 ext4 mounted boot, sda2 lvm2 not mounted?) & sdb1 lvm2 not mounted and returns the warning "lvm is not yet supported"
Thanks in advance

Looking at what you supplied, I suspect that /dev/sdb1 is an LVM Physical volume that is in the vg_kck2 Volume Group.

If you do a 'pvs', 'vgs' and an 'lvs' command, you should see all of the LVM info.

You'll probably see two Physical Volumes, /dev/sda2 and /dev/sdb1;
two Volume Groups, VolGroup and vg_kck2;
two Logical Volumes, lv_root and lv_swap in the VolGroup VG;
and some other Logical Volume in the vg_kck2 VG.

I think the LV within vg_kck2 is what you want to be mounting.

If that's not the case, post the output of your 'lvs', 'vgs, and 'pvs' commands.

Back to your original issue, if your user password doesn't work, it's a simple matter to break into the system, reset it, and reboot. (You can't log in to the gui as root without making PAM changes. Another topic.)

Let us know how you make out.

tom

btw, the message:
dracut: Couldn't find device with uuid 2nhO12-pXVu-Q3H1-L1Oz-1OmA-wLq3-5gWmCj.

is of mild concern. It may mean nothing.
