I am trying to change various folder and file permissions; however, everytime I try this I get the following error message:

Could not modify the ownership of /user/E/*

You have insufficient access to the file to perform this change.

I have tried this logged in as root with no luck.

I have tried to create new directories as a user and the owner/group defaults to root/root.

The big problem here is I cannot access roaming profiles on my samba server unless I log in as root.

any help would be greatly appreciated.
