Exclamation Unable to login through GUI, Linux dist : Fedora 16,


Hi ,

Im a newbie user in linux fedora 16.. Im unable to login to using my GUI mode in Fedora core 16 and dont know how to proceed further ..please help with an solution..

FYI..

I can able to login through terminal (ctl+alt+f2) via regular user and also as root

but not able to connect as su from my regular user...

Things i done before this pblm :

used the following command chmod -hR apache /var as a root user but from then unable to login to my user using the password when i rebooted system GUI logging is not loading...

Did you forget your password or did you do a server installation which usually does not include the GUI?

If you can do ctl-alt-f1, you should see the GUI
If you can do ctl-alt-f2-ctl-alt-f6 you should see a terminal mode

During the installation you were asked to provide the root password. Using the terminal mode, log into root
check the password file to show you are registered as a user. cat /etc/passwd


using the name from the passwd file enter you can create a new password as follows

passwd passwordfilename newpassword

Then switch to GUI interface using ctl-alt-f1
and log in using the password you re-established.

Linux Fedora gui not loading...

Hi thnx for your help....all i did was i used the chgrp command [chgrp -hR apache /var] while i was a root user for giving root permissions to var/lib/html folder for my project...as far i understood it gave the required permission but wat happend is,it also changed the root user to another group and i havent set any pasword for that group...and this also resulted in linux not loading the gui login page..i donno how to proceed ...if possible please provide a soltuion....
