unable to load GNOME or kde

hi

i have a prob with red hat linux 7.2. My computer is supposed to get into GNOME automatically when linux starts. But it brings up a black screen.
I then tried using the linux prompt using ctrl-alt-F1. When I tried compiling a program, it said - cannot compile. no space on device.

I do not know how to free up space. I dont know if freeing up space would solve the problem.

To look at the available space on your partitions,
at the command line, type: df

Do the
df -h
command
What is the output?

If you don't have much space left. You will want to remove some files with the
rm file
command.

For your GUI try typing
startx
at a command-prompt
