unable to launch mozilla -mail (file missing alert)
 

I have Mozilla installed and running. When I type mozilla -mail though, I get this error:

The file /content/messenger.xul cannot be found. Please check the location and try again.

Any suggestions?

Do you have anything else installed in your home directory, Firefox perhaps ?

Try launching it like this

I did have firefox installed some time ago, but it has since been removed.

When I launch mozilla -verbose -mail just mozilla web browser opens.

I am starting to wonder if perhaps I do NOT have mozilla mail installed.

Any way to tell?

You know, I think my problem is that I installed using the fedora gui and chose to install the browser only. Then I used up2date to update the browser.

Now, should I try to use the gui to install mail, it fails because my mozillla is newer than what came with the core.

I am likely insane, but what are your thoughts?

I guess you could use an rpm

Let me know which version of Mozilla you have and I will see what I can find

I did a rpm -q mozilla

that told me what rpm I used to install mozilla.

I then searched for a matching rpm for mozilla-mail, downloaded that, installed... and I am up and running.

What a pain! But I am having fun learning.

Finally all of my Outlook contacts are imported cleanly into evolution!

Glad I could point you in the right direction, as a side note 'mozilla -verbose -mail' will work should you ever decide to try Firefox but keep mozilla-mail

Otherwise you get 'The file /content/messenger.xul cannot be found' happening again

Looking for some help again.

I have uninstalled mozilla now and I am working on getting thunderbird and firefox working.

Here is what I did:

rpm -e mozilla
rpm -e mozilla-mail

rpm -U firefox
rpm -U thunderbird

now at the command line:

thunderbird = launches thunderbird OK
firefox = returns the error:

The file /content/navigator.xul cannot be found. Please check the location and try again.

Any suggestions on this one?

I CAN launch if I use this command:

/usr/lib/firefox/firefox

Sorry can't help with this one Firefox and Thunderbird have a support forum but unfortunately the search function is currently disabled

If I manage to dig up an answer for you I will let you know

There are'nt any leftovers of Mozilla and Mozilla-mail in your home folder which may be causing you problems ?

These files are'nt created by the rpm so presumably have not been removed

My guess is .mozilla but it is a guess, instead of deleting it just move it to the trash then try launching Firefox again, see what happens

In my Redhat .phoenix appears to be associated with Firefox and as you can imagine .thunderbird with Thunderbird

Presumably it will be recoverable from the Wastebucket should you need it

Can't give you any guarentees Jim never tried this, just giving it my best shot
