hello dudes
i tried to install xmms player in fedora 8 but i was unable to do it
i'm getting following msg
Code:
[root@localhost Desktop]# rpm -i xmms-1.2.10-1.src.rpm
warning: user havardk does not exist - using root
warning: group havardk does not exist - using root
warning: user havardk does not exist - using root
warning: group havardk does not exist - using root
I don't think it's anything particularly to worry about. I am not an rpm user (ubuntu uses a different package manager), but I think this means that whoever prepared the .rpm file creaed it with some of the files inside being "owned" by the user "havardk", who does not exist on your system. Thus rpm is changing the ownership to root.
Why did you download the .rpm manually instead of just installing from the integrated package manager?
The problem is that you are trying to install a source rpm (hence the extension *src.rpm) which is basically just source code for XMMS. What you need to install is the binary rpm which should have an extension similar to *i386.rpm.
