Unable to install updates
Hi,
I have updates waiting to be installed. When I try to install them I get the message that I must manually run "dpkg --configure -a". When I attempt to do this in terminal the response is that superuser priviliges are required. Can anyone advise a raw newbie where to go from here. Thanks. |
Please tell us which distribution you are using
If you use ubuntu open a terminal type Code:
sudo dpkg --configure -a |
Thanks for replying. I am using ubuntu 8.04. When I entered the suggested line in terminal a password was requested but keys did not respond when I tried to enter anything.

When you type a password it is not echoed.
Just type the password and hit enter. |
Many thanks. After a couple of false starts the updates are in place. I am learning slowly! Pete
