unable to install redhat9 shows not enough space
 

hi this is bhushan I have allready installed XP and i was trying to install redhat9 on free space of 41gb I make '/' partition with 15gb 'swap' with 2gb size
but it shows "couldnot allocate requested partition:partioning failed could not allocate partition "
please help me my system configuration is

Please, Please, choose an current distro. Support for RH9 was dropped in 2004. RH9 was the end of the straight RH line, they switched to RHEL after that. With your machines specs you can run any distro you choose. If you like RH but cannot afford the license try Centos. Centos is RHEL(Red Hat Enterprise Linux) with the logos removed. It is free to download/update. The current RHEL/Centos version is 5.2 (so you would be installing a version 5 versions behind the time).

My guess is that you are running into a problem with the limit on primary partitions.

This is not a big problem - you need an extended partition as a container for your new partitions - but you will need to include some actual information if you want more specific advice.

you did not specify the partitions i.e previously existing partitions.that you have made.
This is mainly due to you are installing on primary partition.
Thus , first create logically extended free space .
then install Linux in that extended free space.

Probably with RH9, it can't see partitions after 1024 cylinders etc .. As everyone said, use a newer distro .. Kubuntu 8.04
