Please clarify: Is it that you have installed Linux and Grub doesn't see the Windows side of the computer, as your post seems to imply, or are you unable to install Linux at all, as your thread title states?

If it's the later, you might try running update-grub. https://askubuntu.com/questions/2811...un-update-grub

Did you already delete your Windows partition? Is there a way you could pull up a terminal and show the output of "sudo fdisk -l" as well as looking into frankbell's suggestion?

when i am installing linux mint - partition drive does not detect present partitions available on hard disk, it is showing 1TB hard disk as free, when i am trying to install linux in that mode, i am lossing all my data.

what i want is installing linux along win-7 when full harddisk is showing free space.

Hi nanda and welcome to LQ,

Ok, so you can install Linux, but the installation USB/DVD does not see your Windows partition. Are you using Gparted?

I am assuming that you have recovery media so that you can restore your Windows; after resetting your laptop to its original state, can you please boot the Linux USB/DVD, can you please open a terminal and post the output of the following commands:
(Please use the [CODE] construct: it is the # icon in the Advanced Editor)
Code:
ls -l /dev/disk/by-id
fdisk -l /dev/sda
gdisk -l /dev/sda

well in your case i would make a separate logical partition for linux and a efi partition as well. if you dont know how to do that just boot the live image and in installation try the "something else" option. for helps just google it.after the installation just google and take some knowledge about "grub chainloading".i hope you will get it soon....
