I don't see any attempt to install the firefox after unzipping the file?

follow this link
or you can try the default rpm package of firefox from repository
Code:
#yum install firefox

1) As far as yum cmd

[root@CSCWMEALD176V wmeadmin]# man yum
No manual entry for yum
[root@CSCWMEALD176V wmeadmin]#

2) link which you have provide is also the same, we are just untarring the file, even i did.

Just to confirm i followed all the steps mention in that link, but still facing the same error :-(

(firefox-bin:28870): GLib-GObject-Warning **: specified class size for type 'PangoXftFontMap' is smaller than the parent type' s 'PangoFcFontMap' class size

(firefox-bin:28870):GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_object_new: assertion 'G_TYPE_IS_OBJECT (object_type)' failed /home/wmeadmin/firefox/crashreporter: error while loading shared libraries: libpangocairo-1.0.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

Not only this browser, i wanted to launch any browser either seamonkey or firefox or anything

Please guide me.

well I hit a try on my machine RHEL 5

simply downloaded firefox from its official web site
Code:
wget http://mozilla.cdn.leaseweb.com/firefox/releases/9.0.1/linux-i686/en-US/firefox-9.0.1.tar.bz2
Code:
#tar -xjvf firefox-9.0.1.tar.bz2
Code:
#cd firefox-9.0.1
#./firefox <------on GUI
and it is working fine

why don't you download the latest package instead of firefox-3.0.5.tar.bz2

go to the specified location of missing library and give a check

Code:
#cd /usr/lib/libpangocairo-1.0.so.0
and if it is not there download and try installing the rpm

http://rpmfind.net/linux/rpm2html/se...cairo-1.0.so.0

Firefox 3.0 : Latest is ( I think ) : 3.0.19.

All the dependencies are available in the el4 evolution28* packages.
( # yum install evolution28* ).

I'm on debian right now, but try to install libpython2.5 or python2.5, or even python, or make a link:

# ln -s /usr/include/python2.x<space>/usr/include/python2.5

where "x" is the minor of the version installed.

Hi all,

Deepak - am trying to install firefix.9.0.tar.gz

i tried for rpm packages related firefox, it is much complicated - dependency too high, so planned to proceed installation with tar files.

Awesomemachine - I installed python 3.2.2 got successfully installed but under /usr/include was able to find only the older version of python file (i.e)

[root@hostname bin]# cd /usr/include
[root@hostname include]# ls -ltr | grep py
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 Jan 25 2011 python2.3
[root@hostname include]#

I would like to share few more things

1 ) Firefox 9.0.0.tar.gz ( dependency - GTK )

1.1 )GTK+ 2.12 - ( dependencies of Firefox )

dependencies of GTK+ 2.12 :-

1.1.1 ) GdkPixbuf library ( dependency - glib2.27 and greater )

1.1.2 ) Glib 2.30 ( dependency - libffi 3.0.0 ) -

1.1.2.1 ) libffi 3.0.6 - completed

1.1.3 ) Pango

1.1.4 ) ATK

1.1.5 ) gobject-introspection-1.31.0.tar.bz2 ( dependency - python )

1.1.5.1 ) python 3.2.2 - Completed

So try on GUI
you can configure VNC and use VNC viewer which I prefer in my case to get a graphical interface.

Because I don't think there is much installation to be done with firefox

Try in GUI and please tell if you still get any error
