Unable to Install Fedora 11.

Hi,
I am using HP Pavilion dv4 Notebook model Laptop. I have downloaded the Fedora 11 from internet. While installing it i am getting the below error:

Uncompressing Linux ....
invalid comprssed format (err=2)
-- System halted

I am able to run Fedora 8 on my system.
Any help or suggestion on how to overcome this problem will be appreciated.

Sounds like you have either a corrupt download or a corrupt burn.

Torrentz? WHy not just download from the fedora official website. You have bittorrent options there as well.

Most probably its a corrupted file.

As said above don't download from torrentz or something as it might contain malwares, you should download from official links. bittorrent, ftp, http, everything is available.

Is there any way to check what is the problem with what i have already downloaded.

j_jerry 09-17-2009 01:19 PM

Yes, you can md5 check. You need an md5 checker. What are you using currently? windows ?

The problem may be with the way you burnt it as well. Did you burn as ISO DVD/CD and not anything else?

DineshMaurya 09-17-2009 02:02 PM

Yes, i am using windows vista. I have burned the ISO image only nothing else. Please tell me where i can find the MD5 to check the problem.

Always check your ISO downloads using md5sum. After burning an ISO archive to CD or DVD, check the medium using md5sum. Never try to install from an unchecked medium.

get the md5 of your downloaded file from fedora website: http://fedora.iitm.ac.in/releases/11...-i386-CHECKSUM

All the md5s of fedora-11-i386 is included in it.

then download this app: http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/...-Checker.shtml

browse and select your downloaded iso and check its md5; after checking is done you'll get an output (some alphabets and numbers), match it with the one given in the above file

Both the md5s SHOULD match, otherwise you have a corrupted download.

Always download from official servers:- http://torrent.fedoraproject.org/
