Unable to install Caching-nameserver rpm
 
Hi All,

I am unable to install RPM "caching-nameserver-7.3-3.src.rpm"

I used the command "rpm -ivh caching-nameserver-7.3-3.src.rpm"

It does not install.

Please help me in this.

What makes you think it didn't install? Did it produce errors or what (and if it did, you should post those too)?

Note the filename: there's the word .src which indicates that it's a source code rpm rather than regular binary rpm. It doesn't install the program so that you can just click it open; .src rpms install the source code for the program. It depends a bit on the configuration, but chances are the source code installed in /usr/src for example. If you got no error messages, the package did install fine, but it was just the source code, not precompiled binary.

That's why some distributions release two sets of discs: binaries and source disks; on source disks there are same packages, but with the .src in their names, and they are there to give you the source code easily.
