Unable to install any package using apt-get in Debain 6

Hi ,
When I give the command "sudo apt-get install build-essential" following message is coming.

Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
build-essential : Depends: libc6-dev but it is not going to be installed or
libc-dev
Depends: g++ (>= 4:4.4.3) but it is not going to be installed
E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages.

Things done by me:
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
sudo apt-get install -f

Please help me in removing these error.
Thanks

Hi, try apt-get clear and\or clean as well but probably need to upgrade to 7 to fix Dependencies?

I would recommend backing up all your data and doing a fresh install. If possible? :)
