Unable to install 64 bit Ubuntu 12.10 or Linux Mint 13 Maya

Dear LQ helpers,
I have a Dell Vostro 200 desktop that is install with 7GB(1x1GB and 3x2GB) RAM.I would like to install 64 bit either Linux Mint 13 or Ubuntu 12.10 using the USB drive but every time I slot USB drives into the system and restart it then press F12 to the boot menu. It is unable to install. All it show is BOOT ERROR and when I press Enter, it will show ROOT ERROR and unable to proceed any further. May I know what should I do to be able install the 64bit to the system.

Thank you for replying

Your computer supports only up to 4GB of RAM, take a look into the handbook.

Does the usb work on other systems? Are you trying to use a usb 3? Many usb flash drives show up as a hard drive. Not sure what you are selecting.

As above, if you have built some wrong system then we can't even guess.

Hi Markus,
With 4GB RAM, can I install 64bit Mint or Ubuntu?

I load the 64bit Mint and 64bit Ubuntu 12.10 onto the USB Drive and plug it in my Asus 1215B laptop and it work.I am thinking is the Dell unable to boot using the USB as I load 10.04 CD and boot it and I can install from the CD. Only problem is it cannot boot from the USB Drive. I don't understand it.

Thanks

Of course you can. You should put two (the same) of the 2GB-Ram-Sims into the computer and then try it out.
