Question Unable to ftp/telnet from outside to my home network

I am unable to get telnet and wu-ftp to work on redhat linux 7.2. I am trying to set-up my

own personal network at home. I have DSL connection with linksys router. I have installed

Redhat linux 7.2 on one of my boxes connected to the router. I have turned on the

"Forwarding" ports option of the router for telnet and ftp ports for my ip address.

When I try to ftp from outside to my linux host, and I do a "ps -ef | grep telnet" on my

linux box, I see the telnet connection. But, the telnet actually does not go thro. I would

really appreciate if someone can tell me what I am doing wrong. I can access the internet

outside using telnet/ftp/http from inside my network, but I am unable to come inside from

I can do telnet/ftp to localhost sucessfully. But, I am not able to telnet/ftp from outside. Please help

Use utility like nmap from outside to scan your ports. Look which one are open. It looks they are not forwarded, in fact.

just some info:
due to the lack of security: do NOT install wuftpd or telnet
use proftpd or sftp for ftp and ssh for terminal services instead
