unable to enable visual effects in ubuntu 9.10


unable to enable visual effects in ubuntu 9.10


i have just installed ubuntu 9.10 . i ma facing a big pblms


1.when i tried to enable visual effects
error occurs and it says 'visual effects cant be enabled '
i m completely new ..plz help me out..

OK, it seems fairly simple as to what the problem is here. Are you trying to enable those functions with the bone-stock video driver? It seems to me you do not have the Open GL support enabled (usually automatic when you have the most up-to-date driver). Thankfully it's ubuntu and that can be addressed pretty easily. Somewhere in your control panel (settings, system, I cant remember which) is an icon related to hardware, might be a chore to find it but its there. Could even be in your system tray (pardon the windows terminology here) and IF its found, click it and there SHOULD be an option in there to update to restricted drivers for your video (if it hasnt already) and when that's all done and you restart X, it SHOULD work well enough to enable the function.
