Unable to do anything as user
Ok, so I am new with linux. I just pick up a nas that is running some custom version. The first weird thing is that whenever i ssh in it always gives this error.
-bash: ulimit: open files: cannot modify limit: Operation not permitted
next, I cant do anything related to root. Even though I have the password and everything anything I try to do is denied. I cant even write to files!
Edit:
This is what happens when I try anything in root
[admin@******* etc]$ su root
su: must be suid to work properly
Nas is Terramaster t2-220
Please help me

I did not read the documentation but I would guess it would not help. Since this is specialized embedded version there probably isn't much we can help you except for contacting Terramaster.

I thought that maybe you missed the f key as it's close to the t key.
Try CentOS it's the rebuild of Red Hat. OR maybe Scientific Linux.

Try running CentOS in a VM first to see if you like it or not.

You can not install a "normal" desktop PC x86/64 distribution. It needs to be compiled for the NAS's architecture/hardware.
